Advocates: What They Can & Can’t Do

Advocates can do a lot, but at their core, they will do whatever it takes to get you better care.

Here are some examples of what a patient advocate can do for you:

  • Schedule appointments; coordinate among PCPs, specialists, and facilities.
  • Prepare for visits and attend (virtually); capture questions; clarify instructions and care plans.
  • Find in‑network providers; help with referrals and prior authorizations.
  • Fix insurance issues; file/track appeals; resolve claim denials and billing errors.
  • Organize medical records; retrieve documents; correct chart errors.
  • Reduce medical bills; negotiate payment plans; locate financial resources.
  • Provide ongoing check‑ins, coaching, and caregiver support.
  • Research conditions and solutions: With their deep medical backgrounds, Solace advocates can do the research and identify resources, providing clear insights and next steps.
  • Emotional support: Your advocate is never more than a call or text away.  When you need expert guidance and support, they’ll light the way forward.
  • And much more!

They cannot:

  • Diagnose, prescribe, or provide emergency care.
  • Replace a treating clinician or override medical advice.
  • Assist in legal matters.

Note that all visits occur virtually via phone or video call. Video visits are mobile phone-friendly and do not require a computer; closed-captioning is available.
